"Currie’s record label will help the continuing efforts to secure something like a ‘canon’ of percussion works"

The cover story in July’s Gramophone magazine looks at how a renewed interest in percussion has broadened the language of classical music. Andrew Mellor interviews Colin along with other percussionists to ask how percussion music has changed and what the future holds for the genre. The article highlights the importance of Colin’s own record label, Colin Currie Records, that was launched earlier this year:

“Currie’s record label will help the continuing efforts to secure something like a ‘canon’ of percussion works, and allow – as his recording of Reich’s Drumming has – alternative interpretations to underline the robustness of the compositions themselves.”

Colin’s recording of Rautavaara’s Incantations with Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and John Storgårds on the Ondine label is listed as one of Gramophone’s recommended recordings.
