Grafenegg Festival

On July 18, Colin plays the dual role of soloist and curator of the Festival of the Instruments — the first concert of this year’s Grafenegg Academy Orchestra. The performance includes Stravinsky’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments and Dumbarton Oaks Concerto, Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, and the Austrian premiere of Helen Grime’s sensational Percussion Concerto, composed for Colin in 2018.

The concert will be broadcast on the 29th of July at 19:30 Austrian time on Ö1. You can listen in here.

This event marks the dynamic relaunch of the festival’s Summer Academy, postponed from 2020, with Colin Currie and trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger as Co-Artistic Curators. Colin and Håkan have assembled a radically new and intensive two-week programme for the Academy’s young artists emphasizing how chamber music encourages collaboration, self-responsibility, and exchange of artistic ideas. Through panel discussions, masterclasses, solo lessons, and performance opportunities Colin and Håkan aim to create a musical “think tank,” giving the emerging professionals opportunities and mentorship unlike anything they have experienced before.*
