Tonight Colin performs in the Scandinavian premiere of Helen Grime's Percussion Concerto at Örebro Concert Hall with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. The concert will be conducted by Håkan Hardenberger, who collaborates regularly with Colin in their percussion/trumpet duo and on Colin Currie Records' The Scene of the Crime.

Grime's Percussion Concerto was first commissioned by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Southbank Centre and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Written for Colin, the concerto was premiered by him with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Marin Alsop at the Royal Festival Hall in London, on January 16 2019.

"[Currie] built to a magnificent sustained climax with the soloist rotating patterns around his kit. The whole work is a model of clarity, timbral exquisiteness and rhythmic tautness. Currie rose to every challenge and gave the impression he could have taken worse."

Grime focused on pitched instruments and accentuating the percussion instruments' metallic timbres in this composition. Watch the video below where Colin discusses the "special world" the composer draws the listener into with its virtuousic percussion writing:

The concert will be recorded and available as a broadcast for future viewing.
