Grafenegg Academy 2023

Colin and Håkan with the percussion section of the 2022 Academy

Colin is returning to co-curate Austria's prestigious Grafenegg Academy for the second year in a row. This season, he will be joined by his duo partner Håkan Hardenberger and violinist Alina Ibragimova to lead the artistic direction of the Academy. They will be joined by renowned instrumental tutors from various parts of Europe. The Academy commemorates the centenary of Ligeti's birth and also marks the 80th anniversary season of local composer HK Gruber. Colin will exclusively conduct a series of works by Ligeti during this season. He will collaborate with British French Horn soloist Ben Goldscheider for the 'Hamburg Concerto' and conduct Håkan in 'Mysteries of the Macabre'. The closing concert takes place on the renowned Wolkenturm stage, featuring the appropriately futuristic 'Melodien', which Colin will also conduct.

Chamber concerts take place at the Reitschule on 15th July and the Schlosshof on 16th July (both at 6pm). Additionally, on the 14th July, there will be a special streamed event where Colin will conduct his percussion group in the Austrian premiere of George Crumb's 'Kronos-Kryptos', which became the composer's final full-scale work. This energetic yet eerie and distinctive composition is a must-see for music enthusiasts.
